Taking her first Trans-Tasman international flight at just four months old, it was inevitable that Sharon would develop a love of travel and insatiable curiosity about what lay beyond the horizon. This has led to many years living and working in different locations in both the southern and northern hemispheres.
Having an Australian mother and a New Zealand father guaranteed there’d be close ties between the two countries. Australia remains a favourite destination and Sharon has travelled and worked all over that country including a land circumnavigation.
Sharon moved with her siblings and parents to the Eastern Malaysian state of Sabah in Borneo where she started school. The family home was located in the jungle and Mount Kinabalu was framed through picture windows. A deep sense of connection was formed and returning as a young adult, it wasn’t long before she too, like her parents before her, had successfully summited the 4,095 metre high Mount Kinabalu.
Family holidays were spent camping in remote seaside locations until as a teenager, Sharon’s parents upgraded to a larger yacht and holidays progressed to sailing around New Zealand’s most beloved boating destinations.
Sharon prefers slow, meaningful and sustainable travel that allows for connection with local communities while minimising the environmental impact. To reconnect with the country of her birth, Sharon walked Te Araroa, a 3,000 kilometre New Zealand trail carrying everything she needed in a backpack.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream to visit the Himalayan Mountains, Sharon has trekked to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres and in the Annapurna Region of Nepal.
With her passion for travel she seeks out adventure, challenge, nature and inspiration. Believing that growth happens when we are outside our comfort zone, Sharon leads by example and loves to share authentic experiences with others. Regularly hosting Group Tours, she specialises in bringing likeminded people together to explore incredible destinations while engaging with and caring for our natural world.
